Men with big choppers- painted

Here are my finished four Anglo-Danish hearthguard:

Nothing terribly fancy with the shields, but the limited palette and identical patterns really tie these guys together. I think the green-stuffed shield bosses work nicely. I decided to paint the shield rims as leather hide (rather than metal), and repainted my other (round-shield) hearthguard similarly.

Here are all my Anglo-Danish hearthguard together:

  1. Nice looking force, like the colour choice as well. Nice commander figure as well.

  2. They look really good to me Barks. I just entered the Saga craze as of yesterday, so it's fun to see what others are doing with their painting.

    1. Thanks, Sqrl. Saga is strangely compelling!

  3. Very nice! Shields look great and I like the leather edge. Good idea with so much metal on the rest of the figs.

    1. That was part of the reason. Also, when I was painting the first batch I was using a very poor metallic paint (I recently changed, and am kicking myself for putting up with this for years). Finally, while I'm no historian, I understand there's little to no evidence for metal shield rims.

  5. Very nice work, Mr. Barks. The "set" for you photographs is a nice one and appropriate for your theme. Fun stuff.

  7. I can only second the other guys here.

You said in one of the comments above that you'd used a bad metallic before. I did the same for YEARS! How come one can sometimes be so shortsighted or whatever the problem is (being cheap, I don't know), that instead of just throwing the little can out, one just go on and on and nearly destroys the models.

It is ALMOST making me wanting to start with the "trendy" NMM:s...

    1. NMM- way too time-consuming... I'm happy with my replacement (Army Painter Warpaints Gun Metal, for those who are interested).
