Here are more figures associated with the latest Imperial Assault expansion, Return to Hoth. The droids and tank are from non-canon sources such as computer games. See my previous post for how I did the snow bases.
I enjoyed the monochrome Snowtroopers, they look sinister.
The Repulsor tank. I hate painting vehicles. I repeatedly found myself washing it down and highlighting it up but just couldn't get happy with it.

General Sorin. My work on his face makes him look like a bit of a sourpuss.
Dengar the bounty hunter. I liked doing the scar on his face.
Wampas! Not the most difficult paintjob, drybrushing over a blue-grey.
HK Assassin droids. I like their appearance and copper colouring. They were fun to paint up.
All superb...especially the snowtroopers!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Gordon, I do like how they came out!
DeleteJust brilliant! The Empire Strikes Back was always my favourite of the original three films and seeing these has brought back so many happy memories.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate it much more now, and Hoth remains, well, cool.
DeleteVery nice they all look bloody fab!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Simon!
DeleteGreat stuff! You really captured Dengar's look from ESB. And you handled the whites of the Snowtroopers and Wampas very adroitly... getting a truly white white that still had depth can be such a pain.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with them all on the gaming table.
Thanks, Matthew! I was happy with how Dengar came out. I wasn't sure if the wampas needed to be creamier, but I think they look alright in the end.
DeleteVery nice. Your Dengar looks very life-like. I'm impressed.
ReplyDeleteI think he has a bone to pick with someone...
DeleteFantastic you have captured the look and feel of the movie.... Great Stuff.
ReplyDeleteCheers
Stu
Thanks, Stuart!
DeleteGreat work - I always find working with white difficult, but the snowtroopers look fab. You've really done Dengar justice too, & the tones on the HK droids are very nice.
ReplyDeleteI feel like I've done a fair bit of white with stormtroopers and snowtroopers.
DeleteGorgeous work!
ReplyDeleteCheers, Peter!
DeleteFantastic! I'm especially impressed with Dengar.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I'm looking forwards to seeing how he performs in the game!
DeleteReally nice jobs, I think you have been quite harsh on yourself over the vehicle...it looks very nice!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Anthony! I'm looking to use it for the first time this weekend.
DeleteHow did you do the snow on the bases of the Snowtroopers? That's crazy good.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Rabbi! Here's the steps I took:
Delete1. Builder's plaster to build up the groundwork
2. Paint pale blue-grey, then drybrush white
3. Paint the figure, then varnish
4. Concoction of Woodland Scenics' 'Realistic Water' and 'Soft-flake snow' and Secret Weapon 'Ground glass'
I basically made a paste of the snow and ground glass with the 'realistic water'. The underlying plaster helped bulk it up, the blue gave it a cold tone, and the glass gives realistic sparkles. It was a bit of an experiment, and I don't have precise ratios of ingredients, but I am happy with the outcome.
I'll have more snowy bases on this blog soon, watch this space!
