I picked up a pack of evil characters for FFG's
Journeys in Middle Earth. I painted them the same as their
minions.

Villains of Eriador |
Gulgotar is an orc chieftain.

Coalfang is a warg pack leader. I like her arrows and scarred eye. I rebased her on a 40mm base. I literally gave her black fangs; does it work?

Atarin is an evil wight or wraith or some such. My colour scheme of metal and ghostly cloth is not a resounding triumph, being a bit bland.

I've now played through two different campaigns of about a dozen scenarios each. I really appreciate the different scenarios; they are quite varied and interesting (certainly when compared to the repetitive grind of
Blackstone Fortress). The underlying mechanic of card-based skills and tests is quite nifty.
I'm not a fan of playing 'as' Aragorn, Legolas etc. When you whiff an attack it doesn't ring true, unlike if you were playing as, say, a generic ranger or dwarf. I think
Imperial Assault handled this better, when named characters could turn up and ask for your assistance.
I do look forwards to more campaigns, more heroes, and more villains.
Coal fang is a "yes it does."
ReplyDeleteThanks! I was worried I was overthinking things.
DeleteHi Barks:
ReplyDeleteI am stunned by how good these minis look. Cracking job, mate. I'm also stunned that I know NOTHING about this game. You make it sound like it's good.
Best,
Michael
Cheers, Padre! There’s some playthroughs on YouTube you can check out. I’ll have a bit more JiME content soonish if my computer is fixed. It is a good cooperative app-mediated game.
DeleteNice work they are really good sculpts as well.
ReplyDeleteCheers, Simon. FFG has come so far during this blog’s existence!
DeleteThese are lovely Barks, well done Sir.
ReplyDeleteThanks very much, Michael!
DeleteThese look great.
ReplyDeleteCheers
Stu
Thanks, Stu!
DeleteGreat job as always JB!
ReplyDeleteCheers, Paul!
DeleteThese minis are nice, but your paintjob makes them stand out, they look really great :)
ReplyDeleteThanks very much, Suber!
DeleteLovely minis Barks! I particularly like the brushwork on Coalfang and her consort, reminds me of the cell shading in Boarderlands. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Curt! I've seen some quite extreme versions of Borderlands style; I'm not sure I could pull it off. It is a bit like NMM.
