Blackstone Fortress: Traitor Command

Here's a Chaos Commissar and Ogryn. I struggle with the concept of a Chaos Commissar. Nice models, though.

  2. Top quality Barks, and I agree, I did a double take at the idea of a Chaos Commissar.

    1. As I see it, they'd be first up against the wall when a regiment turns to Chaos. Or, if they succumbed, they'd be telling the troops, "Do what you want, it's all a lie, nothing matters, I'll be in my tent having cocktails."

  3. Fantastic painting, they look great, Barks. I really like the Chaos Ogryn model. I agree that the idea of a 'Chaos Commissar' just doesn't sit right - indoctrinated from an early age to be fanatically loyal to the Imperial Creed, as you say, they'd be first to be executed by a rebellious Guard force (no doubt after trying their best to purge as many of the heretics as they can).

    1. Exactly. I could see one becoming grossly disillusioned, but I don’t think they’d look or act like this.

  4. That's quite an interesting effect you achieved on the couple! I concur, I don't see a Commissar easily turning to Chaos. I can understand an 'equivalent' to Commissars in Traitor Guard though. Maybe that concept could be developed, but we certainly need to come up with some other different name for that!

    1. I completely agree. I think GW will put out more Chaos stuff this year or next year including Traitor Guard.

    2. I do hope you're right. If GW comes out with more 40K Chaos stuff in the next year, I hope they give the Emperor's Children some love - we've got fancy plastic Khorne Bersekers, Plague Marines, Rubric marines... Would it kill them to make some plastic NOISE Marines! Not that it'll matter for me much, I've already scrounged up enough of the older ones... But maybe new plastic models for Noise Marines might mean a fluff book and some additional new models and characters!

  5. These look great!

As with you and the others, I had a hard time getting my head around a Chaos Commissar. I recently listened to the Fulgrim audiobook and while listening to how all those commanders got turned, I could see how it might happen - not through questioning and self-realization or whatever - but through being exposed to the the physical taint of chaos - like hearing some mind-bending cacophony at a blasphemous xenos/chaos temple (like what happened to a the Emperor's Children on Laer) or inhaling some evil vapour that rotted the brain.

    1. Fair enough. For me, Chaos is more concerning if you get there through a slippery slope process of reflection and doubt and human frailty. The taint is the cherry on top!
