Painting Challenge complete! Also, Captain Hawk

Last weekend the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge ended. It was my first one, and I really enjoyed the impetus it gave to my painting.

Here's what I planned to paint, way back in December:

And here's the final output. I got most planned things completed, but not all, yet was able to add more things to my final output.

Keen-eyed readers will note more than a few figures that haven't shown up on this blog yet- treat them as a spoiler and watch this space!

Captain Jim Hawk

There is one figure missing from the group shot, and it was my entry piece. All entrants have to send a figure to Curt, the organiser, and in turn he donates to the Saskatchewan Humane Society.

The 'Curtgeld' entries have to have a theme- this year it was a risk-taker or gambler. I chose this figure from Laughing Monk of 'Captain Jim Hawk'.

So, now the pressure's off as the Challenge ends, but I have more than a few projects to sustain me throughout the year!

The Great War- British artillery

This is an Ordnance QF 18 pounder in 15mm from PSC.

I based it on a FoW medium base and used Vallejo Dark Earth paste for the groundwork. The wheels look a little too clean for the ground!

Fury of Dracula

These are from the 2015 3rd edition of the boardgame Fury of DraculaThis is a hidden movement game where Dracula records his moves secretly and the hunters travel across Europe tracking him down. The sculpts date back to the 2005 2nd edition, and aren't fantastic. They're true 25mm.

Dracula

Lord Godalming

Mina Harker

van Helsing

Dr Seward

I used a bit of blue to highlight the Count, and gave Mina Harker a red scarf to represent her ties to him. I had a poorly-thought-out attempt at OSL for Lord Godalming, but didn't like it so overpainted it- looks a bit better now, as if I had done it intentionally!

Imperial Assault- Return to Hoth baddies

Here are more figures associated with the latest Imperial Assault expansion, Return to Hoth. The droids and tank are from non-canon sources such as computer games. See my previous post for how I did the snow bases.

I enjoyed the monochrome Snowtroopers, they look sinister.

The Repulsor tank. I hate painting vehicles. I repeatedly found myself washing it down and highlighting it up but just couldn't get happy with it.

General Sorin. My work on his face makes him look like a bit of a sourpuss.

Dengar the bounty hunter. I liked doing the scar on his face.

Wampas! Not the most difficult paintjob, drybrushing over a blue-grey.

HK Assassin droids. I like their appearance and copper colouring. They were fun to paint up.
