Mansions of Madness: Horrific Journeys

I painted the figures from the latest MoM expansion, Horrific Journeys.

There are four investigators: Trish Scarborough (spy), Jim Culver (jazz musician), Silas Marsh (sailor), and Agnes Baker (waitress).

There are some human, humanoid, and eldritch monsters:

Warlocks

Dimensional Shamblers

Hunting Deep Ones

Formless Spawn
I'm pretty happy with the Warlocks' suits. I went dark grey with a black wash and highlighted with a mid-grey. The Formless Spawn is supposed to be an amorphous tarry black blob- I highlighted it from above and then washed it down with a black wash. It's big: on an 80mm base.

The quality of the figures is leaps and bounds ahead of where FFG used to be.

Imperial Assault: Tyrants of Lothal

After last week's rebels, here are the other figures from FFG's latest IA release, Tyrants of Lothal.

Grand Admiral Thrawn

Star Wars Rebels

I've painted more Imperial Assault figures, for which FFG have used the Rebels cartoon series. The cartoon itself isn't bad, and uses some original 1970s Star Wars concept design work from Ralph McQuarrie.

Ezra Bridger, Jedi apprentice

Kanan Jarrus, Jedi
Sabine Wren, Mandalorian artist

Zeb Orrelios, muscle

Chewbacca concepts, 1975
Here's Spectre Cell with Hera and Chopper:

And here are some Loth-cats, felines found on the main Rebels planet Lothal. Their ears resemble the McQuarrie-inspired rock formations on the planet.

Blackstone Fortress- Goodies

I enjoyed painting the nine adventurers from BSF. They're characterful, well-sculpted figures that explore some less common areas of the grimdark galaxy.

Janus Draik, Rogue Trader

He's got some great aristocratic swagger. I was inspired by Russian Napoleonic officers for his colours.
Janus Draik

Amallyn Shadowguide, Biel Tan ranger

I've always liked the Biel Tan colours, and was glad for an opportunity to paint an Eldar. I almost didn't paint the thorny vines on her cameleoline cloak, but am happy I did. I also think the gems and crystal came out well.

UR-025, definitely a robot and not an AI, no way

UR-025 is a 10 000 year old AI masquerading as a dumb robot because AIs are anathema to the Imperium. He wants to learn from or team up with the AI running the Blackstone Fortress. I went for an industrial yellow which I'm happy with.
UR-025

Rein & Raus, ratling deserters

I painted these guys like the 95th Rifles. Unfortunately, I didn't get a good shot of the back details which include a mini fridge.
Rein and Raus

Espern Locarno, Navigator

Navigators are sanctioned psykers from dynastic houses grown powerful from their ability to steer through warpspace using their third eye. Their icon is a diamond eye.
Espern Locarno

Taddeus the Purifier, Priest

Spreading the good word with his gun-skull at his side.

Pious Vorne, zealot

Vorne has a combined flamethrower-chainsword, of course. She can dish it out, but cannot take much damage herself.
Pious Vorne

Dayakh Grekh, Kroot tracker

Lastly, Grekh is a Kroot. I like the earthy tones and poncho which give him an Old West feel.

I've had a few games of BSF now. It really is a dungeon crawl in space, with the characters slotting in neatly to tropes of wizard, rogue, elf archer, cleric, etc., before heading back to the village to recover and buy equipment. Not bad, and there are expansions coming...

The hard part is choosing which four to take on an adventure.

Blackstone Fortress- baddies

I wound up getting Blackstone Fortress, and have painted the figures in a Slaanesh scheme. This was to match my other Chaos Marines- the new sculpts are much nicer, and also bigger.

Chaos Lord Obsidius Mallex

Chaos Space Marines

Scale creep? Old and new power armour

Rogue Psykers

Traitor Guard Squad 1

Traitor Guard Squad 2

Beastmen

Negavolt Cultists
Pink is frustrating to paint- it takes several coats to get good coverage. A purple pinwash and pale edge highlighting is all you then need. The sculpts are very good and help sell this somewhat unconventional palette.

There are other forces at work in the BSF:
Spindle Drones

Ur-Ghuls
It is very satisfying to get this project done.
