Blood Bowl Underworld

It's Eucalyptus Bowl this weekend, and I'm taking the Underworld. This team is an unholy alliance between goblins and Skaven, and they are both affected by mutating warpstone.
Blood Bowl Underworld- The Surrender Monkeys

My team is the Surrender Monkeys, and they are by Goblin Guild Miniatures. I struggled a bit with colours, but was really happy with the goblin skin. I would have liked the purple warpstone to have a bit more of a glow to it, but I ran out of time and energy.

There are two Skaven linerats- one is quite unaffected by mutations, the other is a bit vitally challenged!

I really like both the throwers. They're great poses, and the blind one sees more than you may think!

The two Skaven Blitzers are great sculpts as well. I like their eye guards.

The goblins are affected by a variety of mutations... I got a pot of Army Painter Warlock Purple just for the tentacle suckers!

The troll is half-rat, and has a big chunk of ingrown warpstone. It is made from some plastic resin and is really light.

I received a resin turn counter which I based and painted in team colours.
I have a few more figures to go, which I don't need for Eucalyptus Bowl so I'll put them on the back burner for now. You can see a few mutations and the team coach.
Next week I'll put up my tournament report. I'll see if I can get these little suckers working for me!

Deathwatch Blood Angel

The Blood Angel Antor Delassio with his jump pack, chainsword and hand flamer. Again, this is a lovely pose with an annoying excess of bling. I am quite happy with the hair, but am thinking of adding some scorch marks to the flamer muzzle.

I think I could have gone a bit brighter on the engine glow.

My technique for the black armour is to carefully paint edge highlights in medium and light grey, then to use black to tidy up and make them sharper. It's laborious, but I cannot find a faster way to get this result.

Next weekend is Eucalyptus Bowl, I need to pull my finger out and get a team together!

Deathwatch Space Wolf

My next Deathwatch is the Space Wolf, Drenn Redblade. He's a great, dynamic pose, but still a challenge to get looking good as it is such a busy sculpt.

How does he fit his hair into his helmet?

The runic writing on the chainsword was a pain to highlight.

Deathwatch Dark Angel

Since I finished my Genestealer Cult from Deathwatch: Overkill, I eventually had to get around to the Space Marines. I have put these off for a while- they are technically challenging to paint, with black armour, lots and lots of grimdark bling, and an incoherent colour palette. As I struggle through them, I'll put them up on the blog.

The Deathwatch concept is that they are a collection of Space Marines from different chapters who are selected to be ultraviolent xenophobes by the Inquisition. At entry, their armour is recoloured black, except for the left arm which is silver plated, and the right pauldron which is left in its original colour. The squad I have are all bloody individuals, who have re-blinged their armour such that they have chapter specific bitz all over the shop. It's an aesthetic nightmare.

The first is the Dark Angel, Zameon Gydrael. I chose him because his robes meant there was less black to paint! Also, I didn't have to struggle with the eyes...

I wanted the predominant colour on the Deathwatch to be black, so I have tried to keep the amount of extraneous colours down. It's still a struggle given the sheer amount of crap they've got.

Star Wars: BT-1 and 0-0-0

Marvel publishes a Darth Vader comic, and on the whole it's not too bad. Set between Episodes IV and V, Vader feels the Emperor's displeasure and is trying to work out who the pilot was who evaded him and took out the Death Star. He enlists some allies, in the form of unimaginative Artoo/ Threepio knockoffs, BT-1 and 0-0-0.
BT-1 and 0-0-0

BT-1 (Beetee) is an blastomech- an astromech with a hidden arsenal. He loves destruction and often has to be restrained from excess. Very easy to paint.

0-0-0 (Triple Zero) is a protocol droid with Threepio's mannerisms and a penchant for torture and sadism. I used blue and black washes for an oily gunmetal sheen. The eyes were a struggle.

Despite being a lazy twist on Artoo and Threepio, BT-1 and 0-0-0 do have character and often steal the scene. I have seen gloss black interpretations of them, but I see them as metallic.

As a bonus, here's a jawa! He really came to life when I painted the eyes.
