40K Galvanic Servohaulers

These accompany my supply dump. I struggle painting vehicles, but these were somewhat fast to get the basics done with a yellow rattle-can spray (AP Daemonic Yellow) and a homemade wash of craft paint and detergent. I then sponged on some brown rust, and I'm pretty happy with the results. There's a lot of grimdark details that took me a bit of time to get done- it is very easy to fall into a rabbithole of decreasing returns with painting all the details.

The crane is removable from the trailer

The claw!

I added a bit more brown and a small amount of water before applying this liberally

  1. That is superb! Perfect balance between weathering and detail, in my humble opinion. Not heard of the detergent mix before, does that make the paint adhere better or repel from certain areas?

    1. Thank you!

I haven't done the science, but my understanding is that a small amount of detergent helps the wash spread more evenly and get into all the nooks and crannies.

    2. Ah, that sounds feasible, I might need to do a little more research as it is certainly working for you. Not sure I am confident enough yet to slather my newly painted model with Fairy Liquid! 🤣

    3. Detergent disrupts the surface tension of the water, preventing pigments from being drawn out of recesses to give tide marks as the wash dries. This is basically all that commercial "flow enhancers" do as well.

  5. A lovely grimy Imperium aesthetic here! Only the Empire of Humanity would make a tractor control panel look like a church... XD
