Got a little gaming in:
First, I had my imperial butt kicked by A-wings.
Then, I held my own for a creditable third in Lords of Waterdeep, on Gorillamo's blinged-out set.
Finally, I tried the new Firefly boardgame. I liked the idea, but it became a bit of a frustrating grind and we were relieved when the final heist came off.

Good times!
ReplyDeleteSounds like great fun, those A-wings are very versatile little craft aren't they!
ReplyDeleteZippy little things just wouldn't stay still for me!
DeleteI've heard Firefly can be a bit of an eternal nightmare if you aren't careful. Seems like you need to keep it simple when you're starting out and if no one actually tries to win the game can go on indefinitely. Even so, everything else about it sounds great. Most impressed you've played it, I haven't even seen the box yet :(. Is it one you'd likely play more of?
ReplyDeleteI'd play it because I like the source material, but I can't honestly say I'd buy it. It's certainly got potential, but it needs a few tweaks/ house rules to really nail the vibe of the show.
DeleteJust throwing myself in the discussion here: I am very much anticipating this game. They still haven't got it up here. As Peter said, I've also heard it could go on and on - listened to the D6G, a podcast that can be a bit annoying, but the review and sort-of-walkthrough they did was quite informative.
DeleteI think they mentioned that the general goal or scenario that the designers had chosen as a starter scenario was in fact not so good for beginners' games, especially mentioning the potential for a *very* long game...
After reading this, and taking into consideration that it mainly is a pickup-and-deliver game, I will perhaps not buy it after all and save 150 USD...
I'm pretty sure we did play the 'recommended for beginners' scenario, and it definitely could have gone on longer.
DeleteI'd certainly give the game a go. Don't write it off, it has potential, and I'd play it again, but try before you buy.
Hmm... yes, try before you buy might be more sensible, I really do like the theme... Thanks for the suggestion!
